Blackjack Versus Texas Hold’em Poker-Ridiculous Odds Versus Skill-based Gaming

Posted under Poker & poker tournament & professional poker & texas holdem

While it is important to note that there are many people who enjoy playing blackjack, the game itself features odd that are so ridiculously stacked against the player that they might as well not even bother playing. Considering the fact that the odds are so far stacked against you that when players begin to achieve victory at blackjack, they are automatically suspected of cheating, it should generally be avoided like the plague. Even worse than this and more indicative of the odds against the player is the fact that when players begin to win consistently at blackjack and are suspected of cheating, it is usually because they are actually cheating. Winning consistently at blackjack is so far removed from the realm of reality that there is a good chance that you have never even heard the term professional blackjack player. The reason there are no full-time professional blackjack players is that no human on earth could possibly bankroll such a losing proposition. The simple truth about games such as blackjack, roulette and other types of events in gaming establishments and casinos is that they are all eventually going to benefit the house, the establishment will always win and the player will always go home broke, lucky if they have enough fuel to drive their car home from Las Vegas or whatever other location they managed to find gambling action in.

Compared with blackjack, Texas Hold’em poker and the concept of playing in Texas Hold’em poker tournament events seems like the best odds on earth. The simple fact is, while Texas Hold’em poker is played against other opponents, games such as roulette and blackjack are played against the house, and are never going to give the player a chance to come out ahead. Despite the odds, players will still continue to play blackjack and lose. In Texas Hold’em poker, whether in tournament play or playing for cash in a cash game, the odds are predicated on the players that the player is playing against and modified by the individual skills of these opponents. If the player is skilled enough, the odds are increased greatly in his or her favor. Considering that many professional Texas Hold’em poker tournament players have been playing for extended amounts of time, most of their lives in many cases, it is an easy enough guess to hazard that the professional Texas Hold’em poker tournament player will enjoy better odds than most simply due to their abilities.

When comparing blackjack to the game of Texas Hold’em and the concept of playing in Texas Hold’em poker tournaments, there really is no comparison.

Online Poker Room Users Rally against the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act

Posted under Poker & internet poker & poker laws & texas holdem

Poker rooms and casinos on the Internet have become so amazingly popular that many players have even become full-time professional players almost overnight after discovering the online poker room craze. Drawing millions of players who constantly wager online in all manner of limit and no limit games including Texas Hold’em and Omaha variations, the online poker room and casino craze seemed that it would never die. The concept of playing online poker seemed somewhat humble and modest in the beginning, drawing very little attention when the first websites offering online poker began to pop up many years ago. But to everyone’s surprise, the popularity of these poker rooms exploded nearly overnight, as Internet users flocked to the websites that offered an easy method of wagering online and playing a round of cards without having to gather half the neighborhood or your family in your kitchen. Users quickly found that hands were dealt much faster on the Internet than they could ever be dealt in real life and the action was strong and fierce all over the online poker rooms and casinos.

But now the government has begun to crack down on online poker rooms and casinos with the advent of the unlawful Internet gambling enforcement act, a law that is somewhat complex and difficult to comprehend without being a lawyer or at least a paralegal, but basically restricts banks from doing business with online poker rooms and casinos in any way, shape or form. This law makes it very difficult for online poker room players to participate in online poker rooms as there are fewer and fewer options for United States players to fund their bankrolls from the United States.

But recently, more and more users have begun to stand up and respond, writing letters to their congressmen, senators and taking other types of actions against the powers that be who have spoken out so clearly against the American individual right to engage in games of skill. Despite all the support from online poker room players and enthusiasts, it is still an uphill battle against the slow moving and difficult to understand government bureaucracy. Repealing laws and changing the nature of existing laws is far more complex than simply protesting and writing letters. But these activities are the first step in getting the ball rolling for positive change.

Thanks to the efforts of some highly enthusiastic online poker room players, the future might be looking up for online poker rooms and the American player.
